Men's Volleyball: Raiders Get Bounce Back Win Over Grove City

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's men's volleyball team defeated Grove City in four sets 25-23, 23-25, 25-16 and 25-10 on Tuesday evening.

The Purple Raiders (2-1) would be led by freshman Sam Morrison (St. Peters, Mo. / Fort Zumwalt South) who had 13 kills and senior Michael Bowler (Broadview Heights / Brecksville-Broadview Heights) who had 10 kills. Junior Peyton Koszelak (Eden, N.Y. / Eden) led the way defensively with 12 digs while freshman Justin Peters (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Canon-McMillan) had seven digs and 33 assists.

The Wolverines (1-4) were led by Evan Dimalanta who recorded 12 kills and 10 digs and Craig Fair who added 28 assists.

After Grove City jumped out to a quick 5-2 lead in set one, Mount Union would respond by scoring nine of the next 12 points to claim an 11-8 lead. The two teams would go back and forth over the remainders of the set with the Raiders maintaining their narrow lead and taking set one 25-23. The two teams would go back and forth in the second set with neither team able to gain much of an edge. The lead never grew to more than four throughout the set and was tied at seven different points throughout the set. With the score tied at 22 apiece the Wolverines would take three of the final four points to take a 25-23 victory in set two and tie the match at a set apiece.

Mount Union would jump out to an 8-3 lead in the third set and would maintain that lead over the remainder of the set. Grove City would never get closer than three over the remainder of the set as the Raiders would go on to take set three 25-16. The Raiders would stay hot going into the fourth set as they would jump out to another early 8-2 lead. They would continue growing their lead over the remainder of the set as the Wolverines would never get closer than six and Mount Union would go on to take the fourth set 25-10.

The Raiders hit the road next when they travel to Greenville, Pa. for a non-conference matchup with Thiel on Tuesday, January 27 at 7 p.m.
