ADA, Ohio – The no. 4 nationally ranked Mount Union men's basketball team lost an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup 64-50 against Ohio Northern on Saturday afternoon.
The Purple Raiders (16-2, 7-2 OAC) were led by junior
Elijah Farrington (Massillon / Massillon Washington) who scored a game-high 19 points.
The Polar Bears (11-7, 6-3 OAC) were led by Aiden Harris who scored 18 points and Will Miller who added 16.
Ohio Northern would jump out to an early 6-2 lead over the first 4:12 of game time, Mount Union would answer to claim their first lead of the game at 7-6 with 13:20 remaining in the first half. The Polar Bears would then go on a 12-4 run over the next 5:36 of action to take their largest lead of the game at 19-11 with just under eight minutes to play in the first half. The two teams would go back and forth over the remainder of the half with the lead never growing larger than nine, but the Raiders never got closer than six, giving Ohio Northern a 26-19 lead heading into the halftime break.
The Polar Bears would open the second half with a 10-3 run to push their lead out to 14 points with 16:22 remaining in the game. The Raiders would answer with a 10-2 run of their own over the next four minutes of action to cut the lead to 41-34 with just under twelve and a half minutes left to play. Ohio Northern would once again push their lead out to double digits with a 12-4 run that saw them take their largest lead of the game at 15 points with 5:56 remaining in the game. Mount Union wouldn't be able to get closer than 11 points over the final five minutes of game time as the Polar Bears would go on to win 64-50.
The Raiders return home next when they host OAC opponent Marietta on Wednesday, January 28 at 7 p.m. in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex in Alliance.
