ALLIANCE, Ohio—The Mount Union women's basketball team took down Capital 72-41 to end Ohio Athletic Conference play Wednesday Evening.
With the victory and tie breaker scenarios Mount Union has clinched the No. 3-seed in the OAC tournament.
Mount Union (17-8, 9-7 OAC) was led by junior
Elizabeth Mason (Alliance / Marlington) with a double-double with 17 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.
Senior
Mckayla Dunkle (Cadiz / Harrison Central) and Junior
Reese Triplett had a strong performance, tallying ten points each.
Capital (15-9, 8-7 OAC) was led by Samaree Perkins, who finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Mount Union started the game with a 15-3 lead, but Capital responded with a three from Ewing. Two free throws and a layup from Capital brought them down five. Mount Union finished the quarter up ten after an 8-3 run with two threes by Triplett finishing the run.
Capital began the second quarter with a three-point jumper from Rodriguez. Dunkle responded with a layup to keep a Mount Union lead. Both teams battled over the final five minutes with Capital going on a 6-0 run and leading 30-29 at halftime.
Capital kept their lead at the start of the third quarter with a layup by Jordan. Mount Union regained the lead after consecutive layups, bringing the score to 44-35. Mount Union finished the quarter strong with a 10-0 run.
Mount Union went on a 12-0 run in the fourth quarter to blow the game open. Capital could only get within 31 in the final quarter as Mount Union took home the victory.
Mount Union will host the first round of the OAC tournament Tuesday, Feb. 24th at 7pm with the opponent to be determined.
