ALLIANCE, Ohio-- Mount Union's women's basketball team lost to no. 10 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace 62-58 in a thrilling Ohio Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday evening.

Mount Union (13-7, 5-7 OAC) was led by junior
Elizabeth Mason (Alliance / Marlington), who scored a team-high 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Senior
Mckayla Dunkle (Cadiz / Harrison Central) had a strong performance, tallying eight points and eight rebounds.Â

Leah Riley led the Yellow Jackets (18-2, 12-0 OAC), as she scored a team-high 18 points.

The Purple Raiders began the game with a strong 10-0 run, leading 10-0 with 6:11 left in the first half. Baldwin Wallace responded by narrowing the deficit to 13-11 with 2:02 remaining in the quarter. The quarter concluded with Mount Union holding a 13-11 lead, thanks to
Mckayla Dunkle, who recorded back-to-back blocks, delivering an impressive defensive performance to end the quarter.

In the second quarter, the Purple Raiders launched a 10-0 run, with junior
Tess Conroy (Valley View / Cuyahoga Heights) hitting back-to-back three-pointers to kick off the quarter. They held Baldwin Wallace scoreless until 3:23 remaining in the quarter, when Baldwin Wallace finally got their first basket. The Yellow Jackets closed the quarter on a 6-2 run, as Mount Union led 25-17 at the break.

The third quarter saw both teams exchanging baskets offensively. Baldwin Wallace went on a quick 5-0 run to narrow the lead to 32-31 with 2:12 left in the quarter. The Yellow Jackets ended the quarter on a 12-6 run, tying the game at 38.

The fourth quarter began with an offensive explosion, as it was back and forth, and Baldwin Wallace took a 47-45 lead. With 2:44 remaining in the quarter, the Yellow Jackets increased their lead to 57-51. The Purple Raiders cut the deficit to 60-58 and finished with a 7-0 run with 56.8 seconds remaining. The Yellow Jackets held on to win making two more free throws 62-58.
