WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The No. 10 nationally ranked Mount Union baseball team swept the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) weekly awards.
Junior designated hitter
Trevor Szekely (Canal Fulton, OH / Northwest), named the OAC Hitter of the Week, led the Purple Raiders to a doubleheader sweep of Heidelberg, finishing the day 6-for-9 with a team-high five RBIs. He went off in game one victory with a pair of two-RBI doubles (three doubles total) and a stolen base, followed by an RBI single and two runs scored in the game two win. The honor is Szekely's second this season.
Junior pitcher
Luke Ickes (Green, OH / Green), named the OAC Pitcher of the Week, anchored Mount Union's doubleheader sweep, most notably earning a win on the mound in game two by striking out a career-high 10 batters and allowing only one earned run over 7.0 innings, improving a perfect 6-0 on the season. At the plate in both games combined, he finished the day with four hits and three runs scored while also showcasing his speed with two stolen bases in the nightcap. This is Ickes's first OAC weekly honor of his career.
Mount Union will hit the road Wednesday for an OAC doubleheader against Marietta, with game one set for 4:00 PM.
