Softball: No. 12 Raiders Sweep Denison; Cahill Breaks Doubles Record, Ties Career Wins Record

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The no. 12 nationally ranked Mount Union softball team swept Denison in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon, winning game one 9-0 in five innings and winning game two 1-0.

The Purple Raiders (27-5) struck first in game one when freshman Addy Antonetz (Zanesville / West Muskingum) hit a sacrifice RBI that scored senior Sydney Mercer (Beloit / West Branch) to take a 1-0 lead.

Mount Union would add to their lead in the third inning with a massive six run inning, senior Faith Reicosky (North Canton / Hoover) got things started with an RBI walk, then Antonetz hit a bases clearing three-RBI double. Freshman Alli Hodgkinson (Akron / Manchester) followed that up with an RBI single to score Antonetz, then freshman Grace Bates (Mount Vernon) brought in Hodgkinson to wrap up the inning and make the lead 7-0. Then, in the fifth inning sophomore Allison Jones (Berlin Center / Western Reserve) hit a two-RBI triple that scored seniors Kaitlyn Culver (Girard) and Lydia Brunner (Minerva) to give the Raiders the 9-0 win in five innings in game one after the Big Red (16-18) weren't able to plate any runs.

Senior Kendyll Cahill (Groveport / Groveport Madison) got the start in the circle in game one for Mount Union and threw a complete game shutout, allowing just two hits and struck out five.

In the bottom of the sixth inning of game two, Cahill hit a double to left center field, it was the 49th double of her career, breaking the school record for career doubles that was set earlier in the season by Mercer.

Game two was a pitcher's duel that was scoreless through six innings, then in the bottom of the seventh inning Jones hit a walk off RBI single to score Culver and give the Raiders the 1-0 win.

Sophomore Emma Reemsnyder (Canton / GlenOak) got the start in the circle in game two for Mount Union and threw six scoreless innings, giving up just five hits and striking out three. Cahill came in to throw the final inning in relief, giving up zero runs on zero hits and striking out one and picking up the win, which was the 79th win of her career which ties the school record for career wins.
