Men's Lacrosse: Raiders Rout Heidelberg in OAC Play on Senior Day

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's men's lacrosse team defeated Heidelberg 26-5 in Ohio Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon.

It was senior day at Mount Union so prior to the game we honored seniors Noah Grigson (Portsmouth, R.I. / Bishop Stang), Brendon Kovinchick (Marysville / Marysville ECHS) and Sean Hanson (Fairfax, Va. / W.T. Woodson).

The Purple Raiders (6-4, 2-1 OAC) were led by sophomore Talon Osmun (Mattawan, Mich.) and junior Sly Sundown (Akron, N.Y.) who both scored four goals and had three assists. Grigson and junior Braylon Li (Richfield / Revere) both scored three goals apiece and junior Spencer Logsdon (Akron / Archbishop Hoban) scored two goals and had two assists. Goalies Dylan Rondeau (Penfield, N.Y.), Nico Macrides (Grand Island, N.Y.) and William Entner (Bel Air, Md.) combined for seven saves and gave up just five goals in the win.

The Student Princes (4-8, 0-5 OAC) were led by Kaivin Jones and Mario Manzardo who both scored two goals.

Mount Union would score the first five goals of the game to take a 5-0 lead with 7:23 remaining in the first quarter, the first goal came from Osmun off an assist from sophomore Gavin Loughrie (West Chester / Lakota West), then Grigson would score before a second goal from Osmun this time off an assist from junior Alec Feigel (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Hills). Sundown would then get on the board, scoring off an assist from Logsdon and would then assist on the next goal scored by freshman AJ Vasilko (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Peters Township).

Heidelberg would then get on the board with five and a half minutes to play in the quarter before Logsdon would score off an assist from sophomore Braydon Tichy (Painesville / Riverside) followed by a goal from Li to close the first quarter and give the Raiders a 7-1 lead.

Mount Union would score the first two goals of the second quarter as junior Josh Pasco (Wadsworth) would score followed by a goal from Hanson assisted by Osmun. The Student Princes would then cut the lead back down to seven when Jones scored his second goal of the game.

The Raiders would then go on to score the next six goals of the game with goals coming from Logsdon, Osmun, Li, Sundown and Grigson and assists coming from Sundown, sophomore Nicholas Howrylak (Bethel Park, Pa.) and Logsdon to stretch their lead to 15-2 with just under 10 minutes remaining in the third quarter.

Heidelberg would score their third goal of the game when Manzardo netted his first of the game before Mount Union would go on to add to their lead by scoring the next seven goals, with goals coming from sophomore Dylan Lulow (Painesville / Riverside), Sundown, Vasilko, Grigson, freshman Elden Ground (Akron, N.Y. / Akron Central) and Osmun and assists coming from Osmun, freshman Makhi Farrier (Fairport, N.Y.), Feigel, Pasco and freshman Henry Bogash (Mastic, N.Y. / St. John Baptist Diocesan) to close the third quarter with a 22-3 lead.

The Student Princes would go on to score the first two goals of the fourth quarter, before Mount Union would go on to score the final four of the game. Goals would come from Bogash, Ground and junior Todd Siford (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shaler) and assists coming from freshman Clay Hanna (New Concord / John Glenn) and Siford as they would go on to win 26-5.

The Raiders hit the road next as they travel back to Berea to finish their game against Baldwin Wallace that got suspended on Tuesday due to weather on Tuesday, April 7 at 7 p.m.
