Men’s Basketball: Mike Fuline Steps Down as Head Coach to Join University of Cincinnati Staff

| By:

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The University of Mount Union Athletics Department has announced today that Men's Basketball Head Coach Mike Fuline has resigned to accept an assistant coaching position at Division I University of Cincinnati under Head Coach Jerrod Calhoun.

"From the first day on the job 15 years ago, we set out to build a family-first program," said Fuline. "The players, coaches, administration, and the community embraced that attitude and over time became a family we hope made the university and community proud. Having the opportunity to join a head coach in Jerrod Calhoun and his staff who embrace those same philosophies in Cincinnati is something I am truly grateful for. From all the Fulines to everyone at Mount Union, THANK YOU, we will miss you. And to Larry Kehres, thank you for taking a chance on us. Your mentoring and friendship will never be forgotten."

Fuline, the winningest coach in the history of the Purple Raiders' men's basketball program, turned the Purple Raiders into a perennial national power in his 15 years at the helm. Fuline won a program-record 285 games, five Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) regular-season titles, and advanced to five NCAA Tournament appearances (including four of the last six seasons), including a runner-up finish at the 2023 NCAA Division III National Championship with a school-record 30-win season—the best finish in program history.

"Mike has elevated our men's basketball program to championship standards with passion and a commitment to our student-athletes," said Director of Athletics Mike Parnell. "The winning foundation he's laid sets us up for future success. We thank him for his dedication to Mount Union Athletics, and we wish him and his family all the best at Cincinnati."

Fuline, a multi-time OAC and Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year, departs Alliance as a legendary figure in Northeast Ohio basketball. Before his arrival at Mount Union, he led a successful Massillon Jackson program, including a Division I State Championship in 2010. Under Fuline's leadership, the program produced four All-Americans, four OAC Players of the Year, and 38 all-conference selections.

The release of the new Mount Union men's basketball coach will be announced in the coming weeks.
