Women’s Lacrosse: Raiders End Season in First Round of NCAA Tournament

SALISBURY, Maryland—Mount Union's women's lacrosse team fell 21-5 to Union (NY) in the First Round of the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament Saturday afternoon.
 
The Purple Raiders (12-6) were led by senior Haylee Handrahan (Hilliard / Hilliard Darby) with three goals and an assist.
 
Junior Mae Pawlikowski (Orchard Park, NY) and senior Ella Nejad (Rocky River) picked up a goal each for Mount Union.
 
Senior Abby Reagan (Westerville / St. Francis De Sales) made 10 saves for Mount Union.
 
Union (14-6) was led by Gillian Joseph with seven goals and Sydney Widlitz with nine saves.
 
Mount Union struck first with a goal from Handrahan but Union responded with two goals to lead 2-1. Mount Union then got a goal from Pawlikowski and Handrahan to take the lead once again at 3-2 with 10:42 remaining in the first quarter still. Union responded with a 4-0 run to end the quarter taking a 6-3 lead.
 
Union then outscored Mount Union 8-1 in the second quarter as Handrahan was the lone goal scorer for the Raiders.
 
Over the final two quarters Union outscored Mount Union 7-1 as Nejad got her lone goal of the day.
 
Mount Union graduates Handrahan, Reagan, Nejad as well as Celia Damiani (Amherst, N.Y. / Amherst Central) and Maitland Fuentes (Montville / Berkshire).
 
The Raiders end their season 12-6 overall, 6-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference as they picked up their fourth straight OAC Regular Season title, second straight OAC Tournament title and retuned to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season.
