SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Mount Union women's tennis team opened its season with a 7-0 shutout win at Wittenberg on Saturday.
Freshmen
Haylee Fearon (Massilon, OH / Massillon Perry) and
Claire Schlak (Wadsworth, OH / Highland) teamed up at No. 1 doubles for a 6-1 win. Schlak also won No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-2, while Fearon won No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-2.
The Raiders swept doubles as senior
Emily Borchert (Richfield, OH / Holy Name) and freshman
Kaiya Minier (Pataskala, OH / Watkins Memorial) won No. 2 doubles (7-5) and the junior duo of
Marianna Farmakidis (Green, OH / Green) and
Hannah Neely (Hartville, OH / Lake) won No. 3 doubles (6-4).
Also earning singles victories for Mount Union were Minier at No. 3 (6-4, 2-6, 11-9), Borchert at No. 4 (7-5, 6-2), Neely at No. 5 (6-1, 6-2), and Farmakidis at No. 6 (6-2, 6-2)
Mount Union will next compete at the Oberlin Invite next weekend.
