ALLIANCE, Ohio—Mount Union women's volleyball dropped its home opener for the season with a five set loss 25-17, 25-22, 25-23, 25-18, and 15-11 against DePauw University on Friday evening.
The Purple Raiders (1-1) were led by sophomore
Zoe Sweigart (Canal Winchester), senior
Sadie Thomas (Maplewood, Pa. / Maplewood), and senior
Riley Meister (Madison) with 17, 15 and 13 respectively.
Junior Anna Macevich (Hinkley / Padua Franciscan) and sophomore
DeLani Durst (Clyde) shared the setter duties with 30 assists and 25 assists.

Averi Haley (Orrville) and junior
Sam Cantrell (Eastlake / Eastlake North) had 21 and 17 digs respectively while Durst and Mihacevich had double digit digs as well with 11 and 10.
DePauw (2-0) was led by freshman Sophie Chilton with 12 kills, Julia McWaters with 29 assists and Sophia Leonardi with 19 digs.
The first set was neck and neck between Mount Union and DePauw. Mount shortly took a lead and kept it to win the first set 25-17. Mount Union went on a 6-kill run to gain there 18-13 lead. Bolen, Sweigart, McKee, and Meister all having a kill. A final two kills by Meister to win the set for the Raiders.
The second set again was back and forth between the two teams. DePauw was able to pull away with the win of the second set with a final set score of 25-22.
The third set was yet again a nail bitter. Depauw took a slight lead mid set leading 16-11. That didn't stop the Raiders from winning the third set. DePauw made multiple attack errors giving Mount the chance to jump ahead. Meister, McKee, Thomas, and Bolen all having kills to put the Raiders in the lead winning the set at 25-23.
The fourth set again went back and forth. Depauw found a lead and took the fourth set at 25-18.
With final set of the night Depauw took an early lead of 6-0. Mount Union bounced back with three straight before another 3-0 run for DePauw. Mount Union made one last run in the 5
th set on a 7-2 run as Meister had two kills in the run. DePauw finished off the match on a 4-1.
Mount Union will return in the morning to face Chatham at 10am continuing on the Mount Union Invitational. Mount Union will then take on John Carroll at 2pm in the Timken Gymnasium.
