Mount Union's Derek Blanchard Finalist for Gagliardi Award

Blanchard (6-2/298) has started every game (56) at left guard for the defending & nine-time National Champions ('93, '96, '97, '98, '00, '01, '02, '05, '06) since his first game of his freshman season (2004).

Last week, he broke the Raider record for starts (55) ' set by consensus First-Team All-American linebacker Jason Hall (1994-98), who made 55 consecutive starts as a member of three Purple Raider National Championship squads ('96, '97, '98). Blanchard also broke the College's mark for games played in (55) ' set by Hall and former Raider All-American cornerback Mike Miller (1999-2003).

Blanchard, a health & physical education major who is a 2007 ESPN The Magazine /CoSIDA District 4 All-Academic First-Team member, has also been involved with the Raider Buddy Program the past three years, mentoring young students in the Alliance Elementary School system. He has also been a tutor in the local school system and involved in the Inter-Faith Development Center, participating in teaching structured physical activities for area pre-school students.

Blanchard is joined by senior Jason Boltus, a quarterback from Hartwick College (NY), senior Drew Smith, a wide receiver from Hampden-Sydney College (VA) and senior Justin Beaver, a running back from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

The 2007 Gagliardi Award winner will be announced on Thursday, December 13 in Salem, Virginia, as part of National Championship Week at the Division III National Championship game (Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl).
