The Raiders (5-9, 1-1 OAC) opened conference play by
splitting a doubleheader with John Carroll (9-5, 1-1 OAC) at
Schweickert Field in University Heights, Ohio. Mount Union won the
opener 5-1 then fell 7-3 in game two. The game one victory was the
200th in the career of Mount Union Head Coach Paul
Hesse.
In the opener, Mount Union scored three times in the third after
a two-run double by shortstop Josh Faltot and an RBI single by
catcher Jon Schulz.
Shawn Kerek (4-0) tossed his third complete game in four starts
this season en route to picking up the win. He allowed six hits,
walked one, and struck out four.
Individually at the plate, Raider leftfielder Andy Warner was
3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI.
John Carroll led 2-0 in the nightcap before striking for five
runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Mike Reynolds (1-3) took the loss for the Raiders despite
allowing only two earned runs over five innings of work. Matt
McKinnon (4-0) picked up the win for the Blue Streaks, allowing
only one run in 5.1 innings pitched.
Offensively, Mount Union was paced by Warner (2-for-4/RBI),
rightfielder Dave Bogner (2-for-4), and first baseman Thomas Pfaus
(1-for-3). The Blue Streaks had six players with at least two base
hits.
The Raiders return to action at home on Thursday, March 29
against Ohio Wesleyan. First pitch from 23rd Street Field in
Alliance, Ohio is set for 4 p.m.
