Mount Union (5-12, 1-3 OAC) dropped a pair of contests to
visiting Heidelberg (14-4, 2-0 OAC) on Saturday, March 31 at 23rd
Street Field in Alliance, Ohio. The Raiders fell 4-1 in the the
opener and 6-2 in game two.
In the opener, "The Berg" jumped out with three runs in the
first two innings and added another in the fifth to counter Mount
Union's lone run in the third inning.
Shawn Kerek (4-1) suffered his first loss of the year for Mount
Union despite tossing his fourth complete game in five starts this
season. David Paddock (4-1) went the distance and picked up the win
for the Student Princes.
Offensively, Mount Union was led by leftfielder Andy Warner
(2-for-3), catcher Jon Schulz (2-for-3), and third baseman Nate
McFarland (1-for-3/2B).
In game two, the Raiders led 2-0 after the second inning, but
were outscored 6-0 the rest of way.
Mike Reynolds (1-4) started and took the loss for Mount Union
while Tommy Kerr pitched in relief. Heidelberg's Andy McFarland
(3-0) went all seven and fanned seven Raiders.
At the plate, the Purple Raiders were led by centerfielder Jason
Evans (2-for-3/2B) and McFarland (1-for-3/2B)
The Purple Raiders return to action on Tuesday, April 3 against
Washington and Jefferson. First pitch from 23rd Street Field is set
for 2 p.m.
