Mount Union College's Baseball Team (20-17) fell 10-7 to #1
seeded Heidelberg (34-7) in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament
on Thursday, May 5 in Tiffin, Ohio.
Mount Union got on the board early in the top of the first
inning on back-to-back RBI hits by junior/first baseman Cory
Slaybaugh and sophomore/catcher Connor Nell to put the
Raiders ahead 3-0.
After Heidelberg added a run in the bottom of the first, the
Purple and White struck again as freshman/outfielder Greg Ferrel
added an RBI and scored on a sac fly from freshman/shortstop Craig
Knott to extend the lead to 5-1.
The Student Princes added another run in the bottom of the
third to cut the lead to 5-2.
In the top of the fifth the Raiders extended their lead to 6-2
on a RBI single by junior/outfielder Grant Sevek. However,
Heidelberg would answer right back to cut the lead in half at 6-3
at the end of the fifth.
Mount Union added one more run in the top of the seventh
off of another RBI hit by Ferrell, but it wouldnt be enough, as
Heidelberg hitting came alive in the eight an ninth, putting up a
combined seven runs between the two innings.
Offensivly, the purple and white were lead by Ferrell who went
3-5 with two RBI.
Mount Union, the #4 seed, will battle Otterbein, the #3
seed, on Friday, May 9 at 12:30 p.m. Otterbein lost to #2
Marietta 5-2.
