(ALLIANCE, OH)--Freshman Kelly Aughinbaugh (Aurora/Aurora) scored a pair of goals including the game winner in the 86th minute to lead the Mount Union College women's soccer team to a 3-2 win over Case Western Reserve University Saturday at Mount Union Stadium in Alliance, OH.
After starting the season 0-4-1, the Purple Raiders have now won two matches in a row to move to 2-4-1 overall, while Case Western Reserve stands at 5-2 after the loss.
The Spartans got on the board first with a goal in the 21st minute as Jen Soo Hoo scored on a breakaway.
Mount Union answered just under three minutes later when freshman Alyssa Flitcraft (Alliance/Marlington) knocked a shot past the goalie from 12 yards. Flitcraft then got in assist on Aughinbaugh's first goal in the 40th minute to give the Raiders a 2-1 lead at the break.
Case tied the game in the 80th minute when Soo Hoo fed a cross to Kristina Vaci for a score.
Youth continued to be served for Mount Union as freshman Kaleigh Stanley (Twinsburg/Twinsburg) got into the act as she put the ball into the box which Aughinbaugh finished with the game-winner.
Junior Kaityln Mallernee (Dover/Dover) played all 90 minutes with seven saves for Mount Union.
Mount Union closes out a season-long four-game homestand next Saturday against Grove City (PA) College at 1 p.m. at Mount Union Stadium.
