Senior Cory Slaybaugh (Hartville/Lake) continued his hot play at
the plate as the reigning OAC Hitter of the Week had four hits and
drove in four runs to pace the Purple Raider attack.
Slaybaugh now has a team-best 20 RBI on the season and raised
his batting average to .490.
Slaybaugh had a two-RBI single in the first inning that
capped a four-run frame and got Mount Union rolling. The
Raiders would tack on two more runs in the second, followed by
single runs in the third and fourth and finished with three runs in
the fifth and seventh innings.
Junior hurler Mark Sabatino (Mayfield Heights/Mayfield) struck
out six and allowed only six hits over the first five
innings to pick up his first win of the season, while sophomores
Cody Colly (Massillon/Washington) and Matt Lambert
(Massillon/Washington) each allowed only one hit in two
innings of relief work to combine on the Raiders
fourth shutout of the season.
Mount Union gets back on the field tomorrow as they travel
to No. 20 in the nation Thiel (PA) College in Greenville,
PA. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. and the game will be
broadcast online at www.muc.edu/athletics.
