Softball Takes Advantage of Opportunities to Sweep Malone

(CANTON, OH)--Mount Union College's softball team took advantage of four Malone University errors in game one in a 10-2 win then an error in game two resulted in three unearned runs late that proved to be the difference in a 5-3 victory in game two as the Purple Raiders took a pair of games Tuesday in Canton.

The sweep moves Mount Union to 12-6 overall and the Raiders have won six of their last seven games, while Malone falls to 3-9 overall.

In the opener, sophomore Alex Lucak (Maple Heights/Trinity) went 3-for-3 and drove in three runs as Mount Union led 2-1 after the first inning then tacked on eight unanswered runs before winning 10-2.

In the nightcap, Malone held a 3-2 lead after five innings, but Mount Union took advantage of a Pioneer error to open the sixth inning then the Raiders got RBI doubles from Meghan Allen (Hartville/Lake) and Lucak to tie the game and later in the inning Lucak would come around to score on a wild pitch that turned out to be the game winner.

Freshman Bre Willis (Navarre/Fairless) and sophomore Kellie Schmucker (Louisville/Marlington) each pitched complete game victories in game one and two respectively.

Mount Union hosts Baldwin-Wallace College Saturday at 1 p.m, in the Ohio Athletic Conference and home opener at 23rd Street Field.
