Mount Union now has won 10 of its last 11 games and stands at
11-2 overall on the season, while Thiel falls to 13-4 overall.
The Raiders found themselves down 1-0 in the fifth inning when Dan
Henderson (North Canton/GlenOak) hit a three-run home run to make
the score 3-1.
Thiel would tie the game with two runs in the bottom of the fifth,
but Mount Union would respond with a pair of runs in the sixth on
an RBI single from Slaybaugh and an RBI double from Britt Williams
(Canton/Massillon Jackson).
The Tomcats would get a run across in the seventh and eighth but
Slaybaugh's and Knott heroics kept them away for the 7-5 final.
Eric Miller (Fairport, NY/Fairport) got the win as he allowed only
three hits over the first five innings, Brett Thomas
(Uniontown/Lake) worked 2.1 innings of middle relief and Brad
Griffith (Canal Winchester/Canal Winchester) shut the door now
allowing a run over the final 1.2 innings to pick up the save.
Mount Union will be back in action Saturday hosting Ohio Northern
University in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader at noon at
23rd Street Field.
