Case (11-29) took a 3-0 lead in game two with a run in the first
and two in the third.
Mount Union (19-11) tied the game with three runs in the bottom
of the third as Britt Williams (Canton/Massillon Jackson) had an
RBI double and Matt Tracy (Pittsburgh, PA/Central Catholic) drove
in a run on a single. Tracy would then steal second, advanced
to third on a wild pitch and on that play the ball was thrown into
left field bringing him home to tie the game.
The Spartans would come right back with a run in fourth to
retake the lead, 4-3.
The Raiders rallied again, this time in the fifth, as Tracy drew
a one-out walk then scored the go ahead run from first base on a
double from Craig Knott (Canton/GlenOak). Later in the
inning, Nate McFarland (Canton/GlenOak) tacked on two more
insurance runs with a double to right filed to make it 6-4.
Mount Union got a solid pitching performance from sophomore Cody
Colly (Massillon/Washington) who allowed seven hits and struck out
six as he went distance for the win.
Devin Dye took the loss in relief for Case.
In the opener, Case hurler Kevin Haley held Mount Union to just
four hits and struck out eight in a 10-3 Spartan victory.
The game was 3-1 after three innings, before Case scored two in
the fourth and busted the game open with a five run fifth.
Greg Ferrell (Uniontown/Green), Bobby Huth
(Massillon/Washington) and Grant Sevek (Salem/Salem) each drove in
a run for the Raiders.
Mount Union continues the homestand Wednesday at 2 pm with a
non-conference doubleheader versus Allegheny (PA) College at 23rd
Street Field.
