Baseball Beat at Home By Allegheny

The Purple Raiders fall to 19-13 overall, while Allegheny lifts its record to 19-15 overall.

 

Allegheny scored in five of seven innings of the first game and held the Raiders to one hit over the first four innings.

 

Down 11-1 in the fifth innnig, Mount Union finally got the bats going as they sent nine hitters to the plate and scored four runs.  Greg Ferrell (Uniontown/Green) and Nate McFarland (Canton/GlenOak) each had RBI singles, Craig Knott (Canton/GlenOak) hit a sacrifice fly, and another run scored on a Gator fielding error to bring the score to 11-5.

 

Allegheny tacked on two more runs in the seventh, while Dan Henderson (Canton/GlenOak) had a pinch hit RBI for the 13-6 final.

 

Ferrell finished the game 3-for-4, scored twice and drove in a run, while Knott had two hits and two RBI to lead the Raiders at the plate.

 

David Strawser scatted eight hits over six innings to pick up the win for Allegheny, while Andy Schleihauf went 3-for-4 with a grand slam home run and Mike Pereslucha also went 3-for-4 and drove in four runs.

 

It was more of the same in game two as Allegheny scored nine unanswered runs over the first five innings and held the Raiders to three hits while they grounded into three double plays.

 

Mount Union avoided the shut out as Anthony Valentino (Highland Heighs/Mayfield) had a pinch hit RBI single in the sixth and Ferrell had a two-RBI double in the seventh.

 

Matt Dishong allowed only six hits over 6.1 innings for the win for the Gators.

 

Mount Union continues the homestand Saturday with a key Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader with John Carroll University.  First pitch is slated for 1 pm and the games will be broadcast on the radio on WRMU 91.1 FM.  The radio broadcast will simulcast online along with LIVE STATS at www.muc.edu/baseball
