THE GAME
No. 2 ranked Mount Union hosts Heidelberg in an Ohio Athletic
Conference matchup Saturday at 1:30 pm at Mount Union Stadium in
Alliance.
The Purple Raiders posted their 48th consecutive regular season
and 98th consecutive road victory with a 28-14 win at Marietta. The
Raiders got career days from three sophomores on offense as running
back Jeremy
Murray (Martins Ferry/Martins Ferry) rushed for a 170 yards and
three TD's, wide receiver Jasper
Collins (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) had nine catches for 147 yards
while quarterback Neal Seaman (Louisville/Louisville) had 331 yards
passing and a TD. The defense did its part holding the Pioneers to
19 yards rushing and 226 total yards. The Raiders knocked out two
Marietta quarterbacks with six sacks, an interception and two
forced fumbles. Senior defensive end Lambert
Budzinski (Canton/Massillon Jackson) had 12 tackles, a forced
fumble and a season-best 3.0 sacks.
Heidelberg snapped a three-game losing streak with a 33-21 home
victory over Muskingum last week. Senior wide receiver Mike Preston
caught three TD's to become the school's all-time leader in
receiving touchdowns and stake the Student Prince to a 21-0 lead.
Heidelberg led 24-0 then held off a Muskie rally in the second half
for the win. Senior quarterback Andrew Miller finished with four
touchdowns passing, sophomore running back Brad Jones had 101 yards
on the ground and the defense forced three turnovers and had three
sacks.

THE SERIES
This is the 54th meeting between the teams with Mount Union
holding a 40-13 lead in a series that dates back to a 34-0 Purple
Raider win in 1910. Mount Union has won the last 21 meetings with
Heidelberg's last win coming in 1988, 24-14 in Tiffin.
THE COACHES
Larry Kehres (Mount Union '71) is 294-22-3 (.925) in his 25th
season as head coach as one of the most successful coaches in
college football history. His teams have won 20 OAC Championships,
including the last 18 in a row, along with 10 of the last 17 NCAA
Division III National Championships. This year he is president of
the American Football Coaches Association.
Mike Hallett (Mount Union '94) is 14-21 (.400) in his fourth
season as head coach at Heidelberg. In his first season in Tiffin,
Hallett snapped the school's 36-game losing streak, finished with
four wins and won OAC Coach of the Year honors and D3Football.com
North Region Coach of the Year honors. Prior to coming to
Heidelberg, Hallett spent eight seasons at Thomas More (KY) College
and was head coach for the final three of those seasons with a
15-15 record to make his career record 28-36.

SCOUTING THE STUDENT PRINCE
Don't let Heidelberg's 2-3 record fool you, as the Student
Prince has lost two of those games late in the fourth quarter
(35-34 to Otterbein and 60-50 to Capital). The Berg's other loss
was falling behind 28-0 to Baldwin-Wallace before rallying to fall
35-20.
Heidelberg features the OAC's top passing attack as senior
quarterback Andrew Miller leads the conference in passing yards
(1,598), passing touchdowns (19) and total offense (1,683). His top
target has been All-OAC First Team senior wide receiver Mike
Preston, who has 46 catches for 678 yards and 10 TD's. A pair of
running backs have carried the load on the ground in sophomore Brad
Jones (300 yds) and freshman Germany Woods (294 yds, 4 TD's).
The Heidelberg defense tops the OAC with nine interceptions and
sophomore defensive back Tyler Levanduski leads the conference with
four. Linebackers in junior Andy Fadenholz and senior Vaughn Klein
are the top two tacklers with 58 and 40 respectively while up front
sophomore and Ravenna native Stephen Fejedelem has a team-high
three sacks.

GRAB SOME BUDS
Senior defensive end Lambert
Budzinski (Canton/Massillon Jackson) likes going down to
Marietta. In 2008, he had an interception return for a touchdown
and a fumble recovery, while this past Saturday, he had 12 tackles,
three sacks and forced a fumble. The three sacks were one off his
career single-game high four that he had last year in the NCAA
Playoffs against Albright (Pa.).
JUNIOR JUMPS IN
When senior wide receiver Cecil
Shorts III (Cleveland/Collinwood) went out of last week's game
at Marietta after a punt return, sophomore wide receiver Jasper
(nicknamed Junior) Collins (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) jumped in and had
the best game of his career with nine catches for 147 yards.
Collins had eight catches as a freshman last year along with a
school-record 89-yard punt return against Marietta.
MURRAY MAKES HIS WAY
Sophomore running back Jeremy Murray
(Martins Ferry/Martins Ferry) had a career-day at Marietta with 31
carries for 170 yards and three touchdowns. It was the most yards
by a Mount Union running back in a single game since current
running back coach Nate Kmic had 310 yards on the ground in a NCAA
Playoff National Semifinal game against Wheaton (Ill.) on Dec. 13,
2008.
SEAMAN STEPS UP
Sophomore quarterback Neal Seaman
(Louisville/Louisville) had a career-best 331 yards passing at
Marietta last week. It is the second 300-yard passing performance
of the season for Seaman, who is completing nearly 70-percent of
his passes for 1,409 yards and has thrown at least one touchdown
pass in each of the five games this season.
DID YOU KNOW?
Larry Kehres is in his 25th season as head coach but 36th season
working at Mount Union as he spent 10 seasons (1975-84) as an
assistant coach to Ken Wable then in 1985 worked only as director
of athletics before becoming head football coach and director of
athletics in 1986. You might not know, he was also the first
swimming coach at Mount Union.
Larry Kehres '71 and Mike Hallett '94 are two of six Mount Union
grads that are NCAA Division III head coaches. Don Montgomery '77
(Emory & Henry, Va.), Dean Paul '90 (Ohio Northern), Erik
Raeburn '91 (Wabash, Ind.) and Mike Sirianni '94 (Washington &
Jefferson, Pa.) are the others.
PURPLE RAIDERS IN THE PROs
After being off two weeks with an injury, former Mount Union
wide receiver Pierre Garcon is in his third season with the NFL's
Indianapolis Colts returned with six catches for 57 yards as the
Colts handed Kansas City its first loss of the season, 19-9. He had
a breakout season in 2009 as he started 16 games including Super
Bowl XLIV where he caught one of his six touchdowns on the season.
Against the NY Jets in the AFC Championship game, he had 11 catches
for 151 yards and his post-game celebration that included waiving a
Haiti flag (birthplace of his parents) made national news headlines
as he was bringing awareness to the nation that was ravaged by an
earthquake just days before the game. This past offseason he
returned to Mount Union and completed his bachelor's degree in
communications. He had 3,363 yards and 47 touchdowns receiving in
three seasons at Mount Union. He played his freshman season at
Norwich (Vt.) and in 2008 the Colts drafted him in the sixth round
(208 overall).
Another former Purple Raider was part of Sunday's Colts-Chiefs
game as Nick Sirianni '03 is in his second season as an assistant
coach (offensive quality control) with the Chiefs.
Mount Union alum Dom Capers '72 is the defense coordinator for a
Green Bay Packers unit that is ranked No. 13 in the NFL.
Former Mount Union quarterback Kurt Rocco has signed a contract
to play for the Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena Football
League.
