(ALLIANCE, OH)--Mount Union's baseball team was held to a
season-low three runs in a 7-3 non-conference loss to Thiel (PA)
Sunday at 23rd Street Field in Alliance.
James Teyssier held the Purple Raiders to just three hits and did
not allow an earned run over the first seven innings on the mound
and Jake Thomas drove in five runs on a pair of hits to lead Thiel
to the victory. The Tomcats have now won four in a row and
are 7-5 overall.
Mount Union saw a win streak end at three games and is now 7-3
overall.
Thiel pushed across a run on a pair of hits in the first, while the
Raiders missed some opportunities early as the Tomcats had a pair
of errors in both the first and second innings, but Mount Union
managed just one run.
The first three Thiel hitters reached in the third and two would
score on a Thomas single to make it 3-1.
The score would stay that way until Thomas came up again with bases
loaded in the seventh and drove in two more runs to highlight a
four-run inning that pushed the lead to 7-1.
Mount Union tried to rally in the ninth with a pair of runs but got
no closer. The Raiders got a pair of hits from Greg Ferrell
(Uniontown/Green) and Connor Nell (Powell/Olentangy).
The Raiders hit the road against Notre Dame (OH) Wednesday at 4 pm
at Paul Serra Field in Euclid then open Ohio Athletic Conference
play Saturday at 1 pm at Marietta.
