(UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, OH)--John Carroll scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth to earn a 9-8 win in game two to sweep Mount Union in a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference baseball games Wednesday in University Heights.  The Blue Streaks won the first game 4-2 and are now in first place in the OAC.

Mount Union falls to 15-14 overall and 5-7 in the OAC, while John Carroll is now 20-9 overall and after a Muskingum swept of Marietta the Blue Steaks now stand alone a top the standings at 8-2 in the OAC.

The Purple Raiders led on three different occasions in game two and each time the Blue Streaks rallied.

Mount Union led 1-0 after a Connor Nell (Powell/Olentangy) RBI triple in the first, before John Carroll tied it with a run in the bottom of the second and took a 2-1 lead on a Bryan Robinett homer in the fourth.

The Raiders retook the lead, 4-2, with a three-run fifth sparked by a two-run triple from Kyle VonDuyke (Medina/Medina).

John Carroll rallied again with a two-run fifth and a run in the sixth to grab a 5-4 advantage.

In the seventh, Mount Union tied the game on an RBI single from Ty Wood (Hudson/Hudson) and took an 8-5 lead on a three-run home run from Nick Elliott (Poland/Poland Seminary).

That lead held until the bottom of the ninth when John Carroll loaded the bases with one out and tied the game on a two-run single from Tom Hickey and won the game on a two-out RBI single Aaron Miller.

In the opener, the Mount Union bats were held in check as the Raiders had just two runs on seven hits in a 4-2 loss.

Paul Mariotti (Copley/Copley) was the hard luck loser for Mount Union as he gave up just four runs on six hits and struck out a career-high nine batters.

Matt Tracy (Pittsburgh/Central Catholic) drove in a run on three hits to lead the Raiders at the plate.

Mount Union returns home to host Capital in an OAC series and senior day Saturday at 1 pm at 23rd Street Field in Alliance.
