Greg Ferrell had four hits on the day for Mount Union and finished the season as the Raiders top hitter with a .389 batting average.

(ALLIANCE, OH)--Mount Union's baseball team suffered a pair of late losses as Capital rallied for a 7-5 extra inning win in game one and a 7-6 win in game two of an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader Sunday at 23rd Street Field in Alliance.

Mount Union ends on an eight-game skid to finish 15-20 overall and in eighth place in the OAC at 5-13, while Capital is 10-24 overall and 4-12 in the OAC.

In game one, the Purple Raiders seemed in control with a 5-0 lead heading into the seventh inning, but the first five Crusaders reached base and all eventually came around to score to tie the game.

Then in the top of the eighth inning, Mount Union had two of its three errors in the field which Capital used to score two runs.  After the first error, Jeremy Meizlish hit an RBI single then later came around to score on the second error to put the Crusaders up 7-5.

Relief pitcher Cory Vickers came on in the seventh and allowed only one hit to get the win and Jacob Thuman put the Raiders down in order in the eighth for the save.

Kyle VonDuyke (Medina/Medina) took the loss in relief for Mount Union.

In the second game, Capital jumped out early with a pair of unearned runs in the first inning but thanks to a two-run single by Dan Henderson (Canton/GlenOak) in the bottom of the frame Mount Union tied the game at 2-2.

Capital then took a 4-2 lead with single runs in the second and fifth innings, before the Raiders came back with a four-run fifth scoring on a wild pitch, a Greg Ferrell (Uniontown/Green) single, a bases loaded walk to VonDuyke and a sacrifice fly by Henderson to take a 6-4 lead.

The Crusaders pushed another unearned run across in the sixth and in the seventh an RBI ground out by Thuman tied the game and Brad Staley drove in the go ahead run on a single up the middle.

Dylin Fowler put the Raiders down in order in the seventh and allowed just one hit over the final three innings to pick up the win while Mark Sabatino (Mayfield Hts/Mayfield) took the loss in his final college game for the Raiders.

Offensively, Andy Pringle (Willowick/Eastlake North) had three hits and scored two runs to lead Mount Union.

Sabatino was one of five seniors along with third baseman Chris Bondra (Mentor/NDCL), outfielder Alan Krontz (Kent/Field), pitcher Paul Mariotti (Copley/Copley), catcher Connor Nell (Powell/Olentangy) to play in their final games at Mount Union.
