ALLIANCE, Ohio – The No. 20 ranked Mount Union women's basketball team defended its home court by holding off a late charge from Capital in a 79-73 Ohio Athletic Conference win Saturday at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

The Purple Raiders (7-1, 2-1 OAC) got a season-high 20 points from junior point guard Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake), senior Kori Wiedt (North Olmsted/North Olmstead) contributed 18 points and 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season while senior Erin Schmidt (Akron/Walsh Jesuit) added a career-high 12 points.

Shalena Hawkins led the Crusaders with 23 points and was one of four Capital (5-3, 1-2 OAC) players to score in double digits.

Mount Union was trailing early but used a 26-11 scoring run fueled by seven three-point shots and to take a 44-29 lead into the locker room at half time.  Schmidt poured in 10 points in the first half breaking her career scoring number by halftime.

The Raiders hot three point shooting cooled off in the second half and Capital used a late 13-6 run to make the score 77-71 with 1:06 seconds remaining, but the Raiders held on with four clutch late free throws by LaMattina to stay unbeaten at home this year.

Mount Union travels to Wilmington next Saturday for a 3 p.m. tipoff.
