WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- The No. 9 ranked Mount Union women's basketball team was upset, 63-52, at Otterbein Saturday in the Ohio Athletic Conference opener.

It was the end of a 13-game regular season win streak for the Purple Raiders (5-1) dating back to last season while Otterbein remains undefeated to open the season at 6-0.

Tabatha Piper scored a game-high 14 points to lead the Cardinals, who erased a seven-point Mount Union lead in the second half.

Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) had 12 points and Tierney Allen (Alliance/Alliance) 11 as the only Mount Union players in double figures.

Otterbein opened the game with a 13-5 lead before the Raiders rallied with a 17-7 run to take a 22-20 lead.  Mount Union extended that lead to six, 29-23 on a Kelly Evans (Twinsburg/Twinsburg) three-pointer with three minutes left in half, but the Raiders went scoreless the rest of the way and took a 29-27 lead into the half.

Mount Union scored seven of the first nine points of the second half to take a 36-29 lead on an Allen layup with 18:35 to play.

Otterbein then went on a decisive 12-0 run to retake the lead 41-36 and never surrendered the lead the rest of the game.

Mount Union stays on the road and plays at John Carroll next Wednesday (Dec. 7) at 7:30 pm.
