Baseball Blows Past Otterbein

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union belted out 25 runs on 25 hits as they blew past Otterbein, 12-6 and 13-12 for an Ohio Athletic Conference sweep on a blustery Sunday at 23rd Street Field in Alliance.

The two wins leave the Purple Raiders (12-13 overall) tied with John Carroll, that swept two games from Captial Sunday, for third place in the OAC at 6-4.  Mount Union hosts John Carroll on Tuesday, April 19 at 1 pm at 23rd Street Field.

Mount Union scored in five different innings in game one as they got 12 runs on 12 hits to score a 12-6 victory.

Zach Carlino (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) drove in four runs while Matt Tracy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) drove in three runs, Craig Knott (Canton/GlenOak) had three hits including two doubles and Greg Ferrell (Uniontown/Green) and Lee Crosscup (North Canton/Green) each had two hits to lead the offense.

Cody Colly (Massillon/Massillon Washington) struck out three over six innings to pick up his fourth win of the season.

Both teams combined for 33 hits and each blew a four-run lead in a wild 13-12 Purple Raider win in game two.

Mount Union, which had led 5-1 at one point, trailed 12-8 before tying the game with a four runs all with two outs in the sixth inning.

Ty Wood (Hudson/Hudson) hit an RBI single, C.J. Stotler (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) hit a sharp ball to third base that was thrown away and allowed two more runs to score then Tracy tied the game on an RBI single.

In the seventh inning, Connor Mathis (Akron/Firestone) hit a sacrifice fly RBI that scored the go ahead run.

Five pitchers worked for Mount Union as Trent Vallinger (Poland/Poland Seminary) came on in relief and allowed only one earned run over 2.1 innings to pick up the win and Matt Murzynski (Mentor/Lake Catholic) shut the door in the ninth to pick up his second save of the season.

Jimmy Dobran (Poland/Poland Seminary) had three hits, Stotler had a pair of hits including his second home run of the season while Grosscup, Ferrell, Wood, Mathis and Tracy all had two hits.
