Box Score 2 CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Case Western Reserve got a great pitching performance then used the long ball to sweep a pair of non-conference baseball games from Mount Union Saturday at Nobby's Ballpark in Cleveland.
Spartans pitcher Jamie Hora fired a complete game two hitter in a 4-1 win in game one.
The lone Mount Union (13-16) run came on a solo home run from freshman C.J. Stotler (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum).
In game two, Chad Mullins hit a two-run homer and Sam Alexander hit a solo shot in back-to-back at-bats in the first inning to stake Case Western Reserve (30-12) to a 3-0 lead which it made last in a 5-4 win.
Britt Williams (Canton/Massillon Jackson) had a pair of hits and drove in a run, Ty Wood (Hudson/Hudson) and Zach Carlino (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) also drove in runs while Jimmy Dobran (Poland/Poland Seminary) had a triple but the Raiders were limited to just seven hits.
Case Western Reserve starter Ray Kelly improved to 5-0 as he scattered three hits over four innings and Jose Vega picked up his third save.
Carlino took the loss for the Purple Raiders.
Mount Union plays an OAC doubleheader Monday against Capital at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe.
