#7 Women's Basketball Claims OAC Title Outright With 65-58 Win at Baldwin-Wallace; Raiders Win 18th Straight

BEREA, Ohio -- No. 7 ranked Mount Union extended its school-record win streak to 18 games and claimed its second-straight Ohio Athletic Conference regular season title with a 65-58 win at Baldwin-Wallace Wednesday in Berea.

Junior point guard Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) scored a game-high 19 points, senior guard Kori Wiedt (North Olmsted/North Olmsted) had 14 points and senior forward Amanda Rose (Green/Green) had 13 to lead Mount Union (23-1, 16-1 OAC).

Jessica Carpenter had 16 points for Baldwin-Wallace (15-9, 10-7 OAC).

There were six ties and five lead changes when B-W took a 21-20 lead with 6:46 left in the first half.  The Purple Raiders responded with a 14-2 run, the last five points coming from Rose, over the next three minutes to take a 34-23 lead.  Rose finished the half with 11 points as Mount Union led 37-30 at the break.

Baldwin-Wallace rallied early in the second half and got within a bucket, 56-54 with under seven minutes to play.  Wiedt then scored three-straight points before LaMattina hit a runner in the lane to make it 61-54 and give the Raiders the lead for good.

Mount Union finishes the regular season Saturday at 3pm at home against Heidelberg.  The game will be broadcast on television via tape delay on WIVM-TV 39 in Canton (Saturday at 7pm and Sunday at 6pm) and on SportsTime Ohio (Sunday at noon).

The Raiders are the No. 1 seed in next week's OAC Tournament and will receive a double-bye to a semifinal game next Thursday, Feb. 23 at 7:30pm at The MAAC in Alliance.
