Box Score HIRAM, Ohio -- Mount Union's baseball team had a pair of five-run inning as they scored 11 runs on 17 hits to beat Hiram 11-6 in a non-conference game Wednesday in Hiram, Ohio.
Five different Purple Raiders drove in runs led by Connor Mathis (Akron/Firestone), who drove in four on a pair of hits. Jimmy Dobran (Poland/Poland Seminary), Zach Carlino (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) and Ricky Olasz (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin) each had three hits.
Six Mount Union pitchers worked and combine to strike out 12 and allow only three earned runs.
Cory Douglass (Independence/Garfield Heights) got the win as he struck out three in two innings of work.
The Raiders started the scoring with a run in the third inning before Hiram (8-10) took the lead in the bottom of the frame on a two-out, two-run home run from George Blake.
The Terriers went up 3-1 with a run in the fourth.
Mount Union then put five on the board in the fifth after an error and two outs to lead 6-3.
Hiram tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and a run in the seventh.
The Raiders responded again this time pounding out five runs on five hits in the eighth with the big hit a three RBI triple from Mathis to go up 11-6.
Mount Union (13-5) has now won four-straight and open Ohio Athletic Conference play Saturday at 1 pm at Otterbein University in Westerville.
