Hilton Head, S.C.—The Mount Union women's tennis team opened its spring season with an impressive 8-1 win over Catholic (D.C.) Sunday in Hilton Head, S.C.
The Purple Raiders (3-1) came away with a victory in the first five singles and swept doubles competition.
Krissy Hallett (Willoughby Hills/Willoughby South) won first singles in convincing fashion with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Margie Selinger.
In second singles, Mandy Wise (North Canton/Hoover) defeated Ritmarie Holden 6-2, 6-2. Hannah Arvidson (North Canton/GlenOak) top Andie Ingram, 6-2, 6-4, in No. 3 singles.
Megan Czuchra (Mantua/Crestwood) picked up a victory in No. 4 singles over Caitlin Porter 6-4, 6-2. In fifth singles, Courtney Adamsky (New Philadelphia/New Philadelphia) won 7-6 (8-6), 4-6, 10-7 over Elaina Sceusa.
Hallett and Czuchra teamed up to take first doubles 8-3 over Selinger and Sceusa. Wise and Arvidson were victorious in second doubles while Adamsky and Taylor Dowling (Canton/Jackson) won in No. 3 doubles for the Raiders.
Mount Union's next match will be Monday at 1 pm against Roanoke (Va.).
