BEREA, Ohio – Mount Union's baseball team rallied to score a 7-3 win and salvage a split in an Ohio Athletic Conference series Friday at Baldwin-Wallace in Berea.  The Yellow Jackets took the opener 4-0.

The Purple Raiders (17-8 overall) started conference play with three-straight road series and after today have split all three to stand 3-3 in the OAC.

Baldwin-Wallace is also 3-3 in the OAC and 18-6 overall.

In the first inning of game two, Jimmy Dobran (Poland/Poland Seminary) walked then moved to third on a Lee Grosscup (Green/Green) double before Connor Mathis (Akron/Firestone) brought him home on a sacrifice fly to give Mount Union a 1-0 lead.

B-W would score two runs in the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead but the Raiders would retake the lead with a five run sixth inning as Steve Mitch (Sagamore Hills/Trinity) and Dobran each had two RBI singles while Ian Adair (Norton/Norton) drove in a run to make the score 6-1.

Mathis would drive in another run with a single in the seventh as he went 2-for-4 in the game and keeps the OAC's RBI lead with 32.

Baldwin-Wallace would get a run back in the eighth for the 7-2 final.

Mount Union hurler Matt Murzynski (Mentor/Lake Catholic) allowed only four hits and struck out seven over 8.0 innings to move to 5-1 on the season.

The Raiders did not have an answer for B-W ace Pat Havens in game one as the Jacket pitcher fired a complete game three-hitter with five strikeouts to go to 6-1 on the season in a 4-0 shutout victory.

Beau Smith (Frederick, Md./Frederick) scattered seven hits over six inning and struck out four but took the loss to fall to 4-3 on the season.

Mount Union now comes home for a pair of OAC doubleheaders next week Wednesday at 1pm against John Carroll and Saturday at 1pm against Ohio Northern.
