Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio – Freshman Shannon Evans (Newbury/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) scored two goals as Mount Union beat Geneva (Pa.), 2-1 in the Purple Raiders final non-conference game of the season Saturday at Mount Union Stadium.
The Purple Raiders now 6-2 are off to the best start in school history while Geneva falls to 3-4-1.
Evans opened the scoring for Mount Union in the 11th minute as she dribbled a ball from the 30 yards out and slid it past Geneva goalkeeper Anna McMullen which made the score 1-0 at halftime.
Geneva forward Heidi Mann tied the game at 1-1 in the 54th minute as she received a throw-in from Maura Allen then shot the ball in the upper right corner of the net.
Evans then scored off a deflection in the 60th minute that was her Ohio Athletic Conference leading seventh goal of the season and turned out to be the game winner.
Mount Union sophomore goalkeeper Maria Favorite (Chesterland/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) had seven saves in the win.
The Raiders next open conference play Saturday, Sept. 29 at 1 pm at Ohio Northern.
