ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Mount Union volleyball team wrapped up its weekend at the Golden Flyer Invitational with two wins, defeating Fredonia State (N.Y.), 3-0, and Nazareth (N.Y.) 3-0.

In the opener, the Purple Raiders improved to 4-3 overall in 2012 with a dominating win over Fredonia State.  The Raiders took the first two sets, 25-19 and 25-21, before cruising to a 25-16 third-set win.

In the fourth and final match of the weekend, the Raiders swept Nazareth College, the host of the tournament, 3-0.  Mount Union took the first two sets by a score of 25-22 before closing out Nazareth 25-16.

Junior Taylor Webb (Geneva/Geneva) and sophomore Nicole Snyder (Mentor/Lake Catholic) registered 11 and 12 kills, respectively, against Nazareth.  Senior Kristen Gromes (Navarre/Fairless) posted 10 digs and sophomore Brittany Woodard (Diamond/Southeast) picked up 18 assists in the victory.

Mount Union, which entered the weekend ranked 19th in the nation, is now 5-3 overall in 2012.  Its only three losses have been to teams ranked in the top 15 in the nation (Hope, Calvin, Cortland State).  The Raiders next take the court on Wednesday (Sept. 12) in its home opener against Case Western Reserve.  Match time is slated for 7 p.m.
