Box Score

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- No. 1 ranked Mount Union held Otterbein to 37 yards on 37 plays in a 48-0 Ohio Athletic Conference victory on a brisk, blustery Saturday at Mount Union Stadium.

The Purple Raiders (7-0, 6-0 OAC) extend the nation's longest winning streak to 22 games, won their 80th consecutive regular season game and 71st straight home game.

Otterbein (3-4, 3-3 OAC) had one first down and crossed midfield only once and that was on its first possesion.

Mount Union entered the day with the nation's top ranked defense and held the Cardinals to five passing yards for the game.

Sophomore linebacker Jonathan Gonell (Pembroke Pines, Fla./University School, Fla.) had a team-high six tackles as the unit had three sacks along with an interception from senior Mike Maier (Twinsburg/Twinsburg).

The Raiders also blocked two punts -- the first was blocked and recovered in the endzone by sophomore Alex Kocheff (Chagrin Falls/Kenston).  Kocheff also recovered the second block which was blocked by junior Cody Pogorelc (St. Petersburg, Fla./St. Petersburg).

Mount Union rushed for 290 yards as junior quarterback Kevin Burke (Westlake/Lakewood St. Edward) had 71 yards rushing on 13 carries.  Freshman Bradley Mitchell (St. Clair Shores, Mich./South Lake) had 69 yards and a touchdown in his first college start while Logan Nemeth (McBain, Mich./McBain) and Mason Minnich (Greenwich/Crestview) each had rushing touchdowns.

Burke completed just five passes but three of them went for touchdowns.  He hit junior wide receiver Luc Meacham (Toledo/Toledo Central Catholic) on a 67-yard touchdown pass on the second play of the game -- the longest play of the year for the Raiders.  Meacham would catch one more as he had 73 yards receiving and Brian Gainer (Tampa, Fla./Steinbrenner) got the other touchdown catch.

Mount Union plays undefeated and nationally ranked Heidelberg next Saturday, Nov. 2 at 1:30 pm at Mayer Field in Tiffin.
