The Mount Union women's soccer team hosts Ohio Northern (4-5-1) to open Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play Saturday, Oct. 5th at 1:00 p.m. at Mount Union Stadium.
The Purple Raiders are off to the best to a season in school history at 7-2-1 and last week compiled a record of 2-1-0 with victories over Geneva (Pa.) 1-0 and Waynesburg (Pa.) 2-0.
The Polar Bears are 4-5-1 on the season and played two matches last week as they were defeated by Case Western Reserve 0-1 and Transylvania (Ky.) 0-1.
Ohio Northern was crowned OAC Champions (2012) and advanced to the second round of NCAA Division III tournament where they were defeated by Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) 1-0.
Mount Union sophomore Shannon Evans (Newbury/ Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) is in second place in the conference with six goals on the season. Junior goalkeeper Maria Favorite (Chesterland/ Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) ranks third in the OAC with 43 saves.
Sandra Thorarensen leads the Polar Bears with four goals on the season. Ohio Northern is 17-7-2 all-time against Mount Union. In last year's meeting, the Polar Bears defeated the Purple Raiders 3-0 in Ada, Ohio.
