COLUMBUS, Ohio - - Mount Union's women's tennis team defeated Capital 9-0 in an Ohio Athletic Conference match Wednesday afternoon.
With the victory, Mount Union improves to 11-5 overall and 5-2 in the OAC while Capital falls to 7-8 overall and 4-2 in the conference.
Sophomore MacKenzie Jenkins (North Hampton/Northwestern) recorded her team-leading 11th singles victory of the season as she defeated Ashlin Gable 6-2, 6-2 in the no. 1 singles match.
Jenkins was also paired with teammate freshman Megan Reichert (Ashtabula/Lakeside) as they defeated Gable and Alyssa Trier 8-3 in the no. 1 doubles match.
The pairing of Junior Lauren Olivier (Chagrin Falls/Walsh Jesuit) and sophomore Taylor Dowling (Canton/Massillon Jackson) recorded their team-leading sixth double victory of the season as they defeated Jennie Schott and Elisabeth McLaughlin 8-3 in the no. 3 doubles match.
Olivier and Dowling both won their singles matches on the afternoon, as Olivier defeated Kathryn MacFarland 6-0, 6-0 in the no. 6 position and Dowling defeated Corinne Hohenstein 6-2. 5-7, 10-7 in the no. 4 position.
Mount Union returns to action Saturday when it hosts Heidelberg at 1:00 p.m. at the Whitehill Tennis Courts.
