Box Score ADA, Ohio – Mount Union senior quarterback Kevin Burke (Westlake/Lakewood St. Edward) threw for three scores and ran for three scores as the defense posted its second straight shutout as the No. 3 ranked Purple Raiders beat Ohio Northern 62-0 in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup in Ada.
Burke was 20-of-31 for 327 yards passing and matched his career-high with three rushing scores on a season-high 65 yards rushing on eight carries as he led an offense that generated 656 yards of offense.
His top target was junior wide receiver Roman Namdar (Southlake, Texas/Carroll), who had a career-high 176 yards receiving on seven catches with a touchdown, while junior wide receiver Taurice Scott (Alliance/Alliance) had 63 yards receiving on a career-high nine catches with two scores.
The Raiders rolled up 305 rushing yards as sophomore Bradley Mitchel (Detroit, Mich./South Lake) had a game-high 93 rushing yards, junior Logan Nemeth (McBain, Mich./McBain) had 84 yards rushing while fellow junior Brandon Williams (Oakland, Calif./Livermore) had 64 yards rushing and a score.
The Mount Union defense held Ohio Northern to 130 total yards with 9.0 tackles for loss, three sacks and a pair of interceptions.
Senior defensive lineman Josh Butler (Lorton, Va./South County) led the unit with six tackles, 3.5 for loss, and a sack.
Mount Union scored on four of its first five possessions -- a three-yard TD run by Williams, a 12-yard pass by Burke to Scott while Burke ran in two scores from seven and eight yards – as the Raiders ran out to a 28-0 lead. Burke found Scott again from nine yards out just before halftime as Mount Union took a 35-0 lead in the lockers.
On the first possession of the third quarter, senior Edward Ruhnke (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) kicked a career-long 45-yard field goal to extend the lead to 38-0. Burke then found Namdar on a 64-yard catch and run before Burke had his third rushing score of the day from 11 yards out to make it 52-0.
Nemeth had a three-yard touchdown run as the Raiders finished the third quarter leading 59-0.
Ruhnke kicked a 19-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to finish the scoring.
Mount Union returns home to host Heidelberg for homecoming next Saturday at 1:30 pm at Mount Union Stadium.
