Football: #3 Mount Union Beats Baldwin Wallace, 59-3; Raiders Host #6 John Carroll Next Week For OAC Title

BEREA, Ohio – No. 3 ranked Mount Union beat Baldwin Wallace 59-3 in an Ohio Athletic Conference football game Saturday in Berea.

The Purple Raiders win their 92nd straight regular season game and at 9-0 overall and 8-0 in the OAC sets up a game for the OAC title next Saturday at 1:30 pm against No. 6 ranked John Carroll at Mount Union Stadium.

Mount Union quarterback Kevin Burke (Westlake/Lakewood St. Edward) threw for 301 yards and three touchdowns to pace an offense that out-gained BW, 543-148.

The Raiders also got 143 rushing yards from sophomore running back Bradley Mitchell (Detroit, Mich./South Lake) while receiver Taurice Scott (Alliance/Alliance) had 10 catches for 114 yards and started the game with a 97-yard kickoff return.

Mount Union's defense held Baldwin Wallace to 61 rushing yards and 148 total yards as Jonathan Gonell (Pembroke Pines, Fla./University School) and Alex Kocheff (Chargrin Falls/Kenston) both had a team-best seven tackles as each had a sack as the Raiders had 5.0 total sacks and 11.0 tackles for loss.

Scott opened the game with Mount Union's first kickoff return for a touchdown since 2012.  After a Raiders turnover, Baldwin Wallace got on the board with a 39-yard field goal from Joe Simonis.  Mount Union got one more score with a six-yard touchdown pass from Burke to Namdar and the Raiders led 14-3 after one quarter.

The Raiders put 28 points on the board in the second quarter as Burke hooked up with Sherman Wilkinson (Kettering/Fairmont) from 42 yards, two Mitchell rushing touchdowns from 57 and 13 yards then Burke found Namdar on a nine-yard pass as Mount Union led 42-3 at the half.

Burke had a 15-yard touchdown run as the only score of the third quarter as Mount Union got a 44-yard field goal from Edward Ruhnke (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) and Brandon Williams (Oakland, Calif./Livermore) had a six-yard touchdown run to finish the scoring.
