Men's Basketball: Six Score Double Figures as Mount Union Breaks the Century Mark in 103-89 Win Over Olivet

Box Score

ALLIANCE, Ohio - The Mount Union men's basketball team had six different players score in double figures as the Purple Raiders won a 103-89 shootout against Olivet (Mich.) on Sunday in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

Leading the scoring for the Raiders (8-3, 4-0 OAC) was Cody Dillon (Newton Falls/Newton Falls) with season-high 19 points. Dillon matched his season best in three-point makes with four on the evening. DeAllen Jackson (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) poured in 18 points and Taylor Moore (North Canton/Hoover) added a season-high 16 points off the bench.

The Raiders got 10 points a piece from Stevie Griffin (Canton/Massillon Jackson) and Kyle Scelza (Stow-Stow Munroe Falls) to round out their double figure scorers. Mount Union's 103 points was the most for the Raiders since scoring 113 points on February 12 against Muskingum.

Olivet (2-9) was led by Aaron Washington with 24 points and DeOndre Callahan with 23 points. Washington caught fire from the three-point line making five from beyond the arc. Callahan spent much of his night at the free throw line making 11 of his 13 attempts.

The first half saw seven separate ties and four different lead changes as Olivet was 8-of-12 from the field to start the game. The game was tied 32-32 with 8:54 left in the half before the Raiders went on a 15-7 to take an eight point lead, their largest of the half. The Cardinals scored the final basket of the period and Mount Union led 47-41 going into the locker room.

Olivet opened the second half with a 15-9 run and the game was tied again, 56-56 with 14:23 to play. Mount Union broke open the game with a 14-2 run which was sparked by back-to-back layups from Moore, the latter being a three-point play.

A final push from Olivet cut the lead to eight but the Raiders closed the game with a pair of three-pointers from Dillon and Jackson.

The men's basketball team has more than a week off before their next game on January 7 as they take on Heidelberg in Tiffin, Ohio.
