NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Mount Union women's softball team took down Gwynedd-Mercy (Pa.) 10-0, and tied with NCAA Division II Malone after five innings 6-6 Wednesday in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Freshman Olivia Schumacher (Ghanna/ Ghanna Lincoln) would get on base off a single and would steal second, before Jessica Moracz (Westlake/Westlake) singled advancing Schumacher to third. Fellow freshman Logan Lehman (Orrville/Orrville) singled advancing Moracz and scoring Schumacher, Megan Okuda (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) singled advancing Lehman and bringing Moracz home to make the score 2-0.

Pinch-runner Torie Gable (Norton/Norton) would score on Krista Leighty's (Wooster/Triway) triple and Andi VanSickle (Loundonville/Loundonville) reached first on an error allowing Leighty to score. Lehman also reached first on an error and scored VanSickle as the Purple Raiders took a 5-0 lead in the fourth inning.

The Raiders would score five more runs in the top of the sixth – Schumacher hitting her third homerun of the season.

In the second game, Malone would take a 4-0 lead, but the Raiders would battle back getting three runs in the bottom of the third to get within one. In the bottom of the second the Raiders would take a 5-4 lead with runs scored by Gable and Leighty.

Erin Simmons (Suffield/Field) would get the win in the game against Gwynedd-Mercy, while Michelle Stiltner (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland) would have four strikeouts and only allowed six hits in the game.

Mount Union (3-3-1) continues in action tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. against Lycoming (Pa.) and the first pitch for the second game is set for 1:30 p.m. against St. Catharine (KY).
