Box Score 2 TIFFIN, Ohio -- Mount Union's baseball team suffered 16-10 and 8-3 losses at No. 20 ranked Heidelberg in an Ohio Athletic Conference series Saturday at Peaceful Valley in Tiffin.
The Purple Raiders fall to 12-7 overall and 1-5 in the OAC while Heidelberg goes to 20-5 and 5-1 in the OAC.
In game one, Heidelberg broke a 10-10 tie with a sixth run eighth inning in a 16-10 win.
Mount Union had a 1-0 lead in the first inning with a run in the first off an RBI single from Justin Jakubik(Strongsville/Strongsville) and the Berg came up with two runs in the bottom of the inning to lead 2-1.
The Raiders retook the lead with a pair of runs in the third on back-to-back RBI singles from Evan Knott (Canton/GlenOak) and Jakubik.
Heidelberg got anther run in the fourth to tie the game before Mount Union went out in front again -- this time with a four-run fifth inning with Sean Mohney (Lodi/Cloverleaf) driving in two runs with a single and an RBI single from Ricky Olasz (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin).
The Student Princes then had a big inning scoring seven runs all with two outs in the fifth to take a 10-7 lead.
Again the Raiders would rally as Mohney would tie the game in the top of the sixth with a three-run home run to tie the game at 10-10.
Mount Union would get just one hit the remainder of the game as David Hendrixson pitched the final four innings out of the pen for Heidelberg to improve to 5-1 on the season.
Mohney would finish with a career-best five runs batted in to lead the Raiders that finished with 10 runs on 14 hits but stranded 10 runners on base.
Matt Murzynski (Mentor/Lake Catholic) took the loss in relief for Mount Union and fell to 3-1 on the season.
In game two, Mount Union again got an early lead with a two-run first inning as Knott had a sacrifice fly RBI and Jakubik had an RBI single.
Heidelberg took the lead with four unanswered runs -- three in the second and a run in the third -- to lead 4-2.
The Raiders closed the gap to 4-3 with a run in the fifth as Knott would score on a wild pitch before Mount Union had tying run thrown out at the plate to end the inning.
The Berg tacked on a run in the seventh and three in the eighth for the 8-3 final.
Knott finished with three hits in game two while Mount Union starter Zach Carlino (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) took his first loss of the season allowing four runs over 5.1 innings.
Heidelberg starter Steve Huber got the win as he went 5.2 innings allowing seven hits and one earned run with three strikeouts.
Mount Union returns home to take on No. 18 Marietta in a conference series Wednesday, April 9 at 1 pm at 23rd Street Field in Alliance.
