Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Kevin Burke (Westlake/Lakewood St. Edward) matched his career-high with five touchdown passes to lead No. 3 Mount Union to a 63-7 win over Marietta in the home opener and re-dedication of Mount Union Stadium Saturday night in Alliance.
A sellout crowd of 6,122 fans saw the Purple Raiders move to 3-0 (2-0 in the OAC) while extending their regular season win streak to 86 games. Earlier in the day, a historical marker was unveiled just outside the Southwest corner of the stadium to rededicate Ohio's oldest college football stadium.
Fans hang a sign in the South endzone that says "Welcome to the Machine" and the home crowd was treated to mechanical like precision as Mount Union generated a season-high 584 yards of total offense -- 419 of those yards in the first half.
Burke was 14-of-19 for 247 yards with five touchdowns in the first half. His five touchdowns matched a careeer-high that he had in 2012 against John Carroll.
Junior wide receiver Roman Namdar (Southlake, Texas/Carroll) hauled in three of those touchdowns as he had five catches for 105 yards -- also all in the first two quarters.
Junior Taurice Scott (Alliance/Alliance) had four catches for 83 yards as he and sophomore Tim Kennedy (Hudson/Hudson) each caught a touchdown pass.
Sophomore Bradley Mitchell (Detroit, Mich./South Lake) had 10 carries for 89 yards with a touchdown while junior Brandon Williams (Oakland, Calif./Livermore) and freshman Jamal Johnson (New Philadelphia/New Philadelphia) each had a rushing touchdown.
Senior Edward Ruhnke (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) also kicked three field goals (27, 26, 27).
The Mount Union defense held Marietta to 165 total yards and Pioneers did not cross the 50-yard line until late in the third quarter when they put their lone score on the board -- a four-yard touchdown run by Nick O'Neal.
The Raiders got three turnovers with a pair of forced fumbles and an interception from junior Tre Jones (Twinsburg/Twinsburg).
Junior linebacker Hank Spencer (Greencastle, Ind./North Putnam) led the group with eight tackles.
Mount Union scored on its first eight possessions and missed a 34-yard field goal on its only other first half possession to lead 50-0 at the half.
Ruhnke kicked to more field goals in the third quarter before Marietta scored its touchdown to make it 56-7.
The Raiders tacked on a final touchdown in the fourth quarter for the 63-7 final.
Mount Union plays next week at Capital in an OAC game at 12:30 pm in Columbus.
