Football: #1 Mount Union Blanks Otterbein, 55-0; Lally Matches All-Time Sack Record

ALLIANCE, Ohio – No. 1 ranked Mount Union sacked Otterbein 55-0 in an Ohio Athletic Conference football game Saturday in Alliance.

The Purple Raiders, 8-0 overall, 7-0 OAC, win their 101st straight regular season game and 90th straight home game while Otterbein falls to 4-4 and 3-4 in the OAC.

Mount Union senior defensive lineman Tom Lally (Fairview Park/Lakewood St. Edward) had 2.5 sacks to tie the Raiders career record with 31.5 sacks and led a unit that held Otterbein to three first downs and 46 total yards.

On offense, senior quarterback Taurice Scott (Alliance/Alliance) threw for four touchdowns and ran for another as he completed 16-of-21 passes for 261 yards.  Senior running back Logan Nemeth (McBain, Mich./McBain) made his first career start and had 15 carries for 109 yards for a score.  A pair of receivers went over 100 yards as senior Roman Namdar (Southlake, Texas/Carroll) had 104 with a touchdown while junior Tim Kennedy (Hudson/Hudson) had 102.

Mount Union did not score on its first possession but got touchdowns on each of its next seven first half possessions to put up 50 points in the first half while the defense held Otterbein to five total yards.

In the first quarter, Scott ran in a score from 11 yards and tossed two touchdown passes both to Wilson.  The Raiders also had a two point conversion where kicker Jake Antel (Lakewood/Lakewood) hit Kennedy to lead 22-0 at the end of the quarter.

The Raiders first touchdown of the second quarter came on a 52 yard pass from Scott to Namdar that extended the lead to 29-0.  Jamal Johnson (New Philadelphia/New Philadelphia) scored a five-yard rushing touchdown on Mount Union's next possession to take the score to 36-0.  Scott threw his fourth touchdown pass of the game with a 44 yard strike which made it 43-0.  Logan Nemeth ran in his conference leading 16th TD of the season to get the score to 50-0.

In the second half, Mount Union's Mike Jackson (Lakewood, N.Y./Southwestern Central) recovered a fumble which turned into an Antel 24 yard field goal then he sacked the Otterbein quarterback for a safety that made the 55-0 final.

The Raiders host Baldwin Wallace next Saturday, Nov. 7 at 1:30 p.m. in final regular season home game.
