Box Score WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Mount Union rallied from a four-run deficit to take a 5-4 lead in the eighth inning but lost 6-5 at Washington & Jefferson Tuesday at Ross Memorial Park in Washington.
The Purple Raiders (8-6) trailed 4-0 heading into the top of the seventh inning and tied the game with a four-run seventh inning with big hit coming on two-run double from Jimmy Scott (Holland/Toledo St. John's).
Mount Union took a 5-4 lead in the top of the eighth inning on a solo home run from Colt Turley (Millersport/Liberty Union).
The Presidents (8-3) tied the game on a two-out, RBI double down the left field line and almost took the lead on the play before a runner was cut down at the plate on the play.
The Raiders put runners on second and third in the ninth but could not score while Washington & Jefferson loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning and got a pinch hit fielders' choice RBI from Joe Palumbo.
Scott Chase (North Ridgeville/St. Ignatius) took loss in relief for Mount Union to fall to 1-1 while Tim Mulvey picked up the win out of the pen for Washington & Jefferson.
Mount Union stays on the road playing Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Thiel in Greenville, Pa.
