Box Score 2 ADA, Ohio -- Mount Union's baseball team pushed a run across in the second inning of game two then held on for a 5-4 win to salvage a split with Ohio Northern in an Ohio Athletic Conference series Saturday at Wander Field in Ada.
The Purple Raiders, who dropped game one 6-1, are now 10-7 overall and 1-3 in the OAC while Ohio Northern is 14-2 overall and 3-1 in the OAC.
With score tied at 4-4 in the seventh inning, James Weber (Auburn, Ind./Garrett) had a one-out single, moved to second on a ground out then after another out would score on a throwing error as a Adam Bialosky (Hinckley/Medina Highland) grounder was misplayed that allowed Weber to score the go ahead run.
Kyle Toma started on the mound for Mount Union and allowed two earned runs over the first seven innings to move to 4-1 overall on the season.
Noah Skladan (Amherst/Steele) got the first two outs in the eighth inning then Scott Chase (North Ridgeville/St. Ignatius) got the final four outs for his third save of the season.
Bialosky and Weber each finished with two hits for the Raiders in game one.
Alex Crabtree started for Northern and did not get out of the second inning while Devin Carr, who pitched seven innings in relief took the loss.
In the game one, Mount Union managed just a run on two hits in a 6-1 loss.
Northern put three runs on the board in the bottom of the first and the score stayed 3-0 until the seventh inning when the Raiders took advantage of an error and a balk then Weber had a two-out RBI single to plate a run.
The Polar Bears ended the comeback there with three runs in the eighth inning for the 6-1 final.
Wesley Kemp (Uniontown/Lake) struck out five and allowed three runs over seven innings but took the loss on the mound to fall to 2-2 on the season.
Mount Union's games scheduled for Sunday against Penn State-Behrend were postponed so the Raiders next games are Friday, April 3 at 1 p.m. against Heidelberg at 23rd Street Field in Alliance.
