Box Score WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- Mount Union's baseball team knocked off the No. 9 ranked team in the nation beating Concordia-Chicago, 6-4 Thursday at Chain O'Lakes Stadium in Winter Haven, Fla.
With the score tied 4-4 in the seventh, Sean Mohney (Lodi/Cloverleaf) and Anthony Morino (Strongsville/Strongsville) each drove in runs to give the Purple Raiders a 6-4 lead.
Four Mount Union pitchers combined to scatter nine hits over nine innings as Beau Taylor (Alliance/West Branch) surrendered three runs on seven hits over 5.1 innings while Kyle Toma (Strongsville/Strongsville) allowed two hits over 1.1 innings of relief to pick up his second win of the season.
Mike Wood (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) pitched a scoreless eigth and Scott Chase (North Ridgeville/St. Ignatius) pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his second save of the year.
Concordia (3-2) took a 2-0 lead on runs in the first and second inning before Mount Union took the lead with a four-run second inning. In that inning, Austin Eppstein (Hubbard/Hubbard) had an RBI-ground out, Cole Carlino (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic), Scott Sherwood (Mentor/Mentor) and Mohney each had RBI singles.
Concordia got a run back in the third and tied the game in the seventh.
Sherwood finished with three hits for the Raiders.
A.J. Sanchez allowed six runs on 10 hits over 6.1 innnings to take the loss on the mound for Concordia.
Mount Union, now 4-2 on the season, continues the Florida swing with a pair of games Friday morning against Trine (Ind.).
