Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

NEW CONCORD, Ohio -- Mount Union scored 38 runs on 40 hits in a pair of wins 20-6 and 18-0 at Muskingum in an Ohio Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader Tuesday in New Concord.

The 38 runs over the two games for the Purple Raiders is a record for runs in a two-game conference series.

Mount Union, now 17-10 overall and at 6-6 in the OAC, is three games behind first place Heidelberg (9-3) with six OAC games left in the season.

Muskingum falls to 10-19 overall and 4-8 in the OAC.

Headlining the Raiders big day at the plate was junior catcher James Weber (Auburn, Ind./Garrett) who over the two games went 7-for-7 with a double and home run while driving in eight runs.

Weber got five hits and drove in four runs in game one as his first RBI came on a single that capped a three-run third inning to break a 3-3 tie and put Mount Union up 6-3.

Muskingum closed the gap to 6-4 with a run in the third before the Raiders got that run back on a Tyler Simcox (Akron/Ellet) single in the fifth.

The Muskies rallied to tie the game with two in the fifth before the Raiders broke the game open with a seven-run sixth inning.

In that sixth inning, Sean Mohney (Lodi/Cloverleaf) and Weber each had two-run doubles while Adam Bialosky (Hinkley/Medina Highland) had a two-run single.

Mount Union was not done as the Raiders plated five more runs in the seventh with the big hit being a two-run trip from Nick Piotrowski (Macedonia/Nordonia) then another run in the ninth on a double from Mitchell Lake (Orwell/Grand Valley) for the 20-6 final.

Mitch McCristal (Ontario/Ontario) came out of the pen and allowed three runs in 3.2 innings to pick up his first win of the season while Brandon Bell (Strattonville, Pa./Clarion-Limestone) did not allow a hit over the final 4.1 innings for his third save of the season.

In game two, four Mount Union pitchers combined to hold the Muskies to just six hits for the first shutout of the season.

Kyle Toma (Strongsville/Strongville) started the game and gave up three hits over 5.0 innings to get the win an move to 7-1 on the season.

Josh Pryor (Cortland/Lakeview), Beau Taylor (Alliance/West Branch) and Scott Chase (North Ridgeville/St. Ignatius) scattered three hits over the last four innings.

Weber had two more hits including a three-run home run and Mohney drove in three runs to pace an offense that took advantage of six Muskie errors.

Mount Union next hosts No. 18 Baldwin Wallace in an OAC doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. at 23rd Street Field in Alliance.
