Football: #1 Mount Union Scores Season-High 71 Points in 71-7 Win Over Wilmington

ALLIANCE, Ohio – No. 1 ranked Mount Union scored a season-high 71 points in a 71-7 win over Wilmington in an Ohio Athletic Conference game Saturday at Mount Union Stadium.

The win was the 110th straight regular season win for the Purple Raiders (7-0, 6-0 OAC) dating back 11 years and matches a streak that the team accomplished from 1994-2005.

Freshmen quarterback Dom Davis (Akron/St. Vincent-St. Mary) completed 9-of-13 passes for 204 yards and three touchdowns to lead an offense that out-gained Wilmington (0-7, 0-6 OAC) 169-48 in the first half as the Raiders ran out to a 37-7 halftime lead.

Mount Union running back Jawanza Evans-Morris (Coral Springs, Fla./Taravella) rushed for over 100 yards for the first time in his career as he had 102 yards on 10 carries with a pair of scores and Braeden Friss (Avon/Avon) had three catches for 66 yards and a score.

On defense, Mount Union held the Quakers to 91 total yards.

Safety Austin White (Wadsworth/Wadsworth) had nine stops while Danny Robinson (Massillon/Massillon Washington) and Richard Morris (Coconut Creek, Fla./Coconut Creek) each returned interceptions for touchdowns.

Mitchell opened the scoring on the Raiders' first possession as he ran in from three yards out to give Mount Union a 7-0 lead with 11:21 left in the first quarter.

On Mount Union's next possession, Davis hit Tim Kennedy (Hudson/Hudson) on an 18-yard pass and the Raiders led 14-0 after the first quarter.

Wilmington then had a wild snap on a punt attempt that went out of the back of its own end zone for a Mount Union safety and a 16-0 lead early in the second quarter.

Mount Union tacked on a pair of rushing scores from Aaron and Evans-Morris to push the score to 30-0.

Wilmington got on the scoreboard with a 29-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown by Keshawn Johnson-Sanders.

The Raiders put one more score up before halftime as Davis hit Justin Hill (Circleville/Jireh Prep, N.C.) on a 12-yard touchdown pass just three seconds before the break and it made the score 37-7.

Mount Union took the opening drive of the second half 65 yards and Davis hit Friss on a 35-yard touchdown pass that took it to 44-7.

Robinson then intercepted a Wilmington shovel pass and returned it 40 yard for a touchdown that extended the score to 51-7.

Evans-Morris had a 13-yard touchdown for Mount Union and the Raiders' led 58-7 after three quarters.

Alex Louthan (Loganville, Ga./Grayson) and Cory Barnett (Grove City/Teays Valley) each tacked on field goals and Morris returned an interception 47 yards for a score to finish the scoring.
